Pastor Don - Wake and Memorial Service
With heavy hearts we are letting you know that Pastor Don went home to be with the Lord. Pastor Don Voegtlin served as pastor of Bethany from 1990 to 2012.
During his time as pastor, he served the congregation in his down-to-earth way. He gave countless rides to church, made hundreds of hospital visits, and since this was pre-uber era he even gave numerous rides to the hospital too.
God blessed him with a blue-collar background which gave him the ability to tackle all types of projects around the church. No job was beneath him. Even if that meant the pastor needed to change the toilet seat, or shovel snow or work on the church van or bus.
His sermons were well studied with a handwritten outline, clear points and a clever title. His love for God grew greater over the years and he desired that the people would grow in their love for God too.
Probably what people remember most was how he cared for them and related to them, taught them; comforted them and showed genuine interest in them.
After retiring he enjoyed many more years attending Bethany and enjoying the fellowship of longtime friends and making new friends. He spent a lot of time on the front porch and somehow, he seemed to meet almost everyone that walked by the house. You can be sure they were all invited to church too. He never got out of the habit of being the last to leave the church building on Sundays.

Pastor Installation Service: Sunday, October 31 : 3:00 pm
Brock Brockway, is being installed as the twenty-ninth pastor of Bethany since 1888. There were thirteen men who served as pastor prior to 1888, when the name Bethany was adopted and the current structure was built.
In those early days, the church was known as The Baptist Church of Bridgeport and then as the South Chicago Baptist Church. Later, Brighton Park Baptist Church merged with the Bethany congregation. As we reflect on the past, we are thankful to God for the faithful people who came before us and with them we cry out in the words of Isaac Watts, "O God our help in ages past, our hope for years to come".
